Ushahidi started as project to give voice to people during the post- election violence in Nairobi, Kenya. Since that time there have been a number of election related maps from coalition building to election monitoring to peace-building in the post-election period. Each map informs the next. It is expected with major elections in 2012 including USA and others that there will be expanded interest in this area. The Building Bridges project used Ushahidi to map post-election peace-building initiatives. The cycle of giving voice to society is ongoing. As with each topical map, there is a growing discipline of election monitoring mappers.
