Ushahidi has video channels on Youtube and Vimeo. We are working on a project to integrate video into the community.ushahidi.com website. We will be integrating two open sources tools: Miro and Universal Subtitles.
Video Channel on the community site:
Add Universal Subtitles functionality to the Ushahidi video channel and community toolkit. You will need an account on Universal Subtitles to translate a video. Our plan is to start with Tutorial video localizations.
We have a concurrent project for localization and translation. This will be an upcoming community project.
Fully integrate video and video search into the Ushahidi website at either video.ushahidi.com or Community.ushahidi.com/video. Q3
What are the Video categories?
The categories are Deployment Stories, Talks, Tutorials and User Stories.
How do I add a video?
You can add a video by clicking the "submit video" button on the Ushahidi.mirocommunity.org website. More instructions:
- The URL can be from YouTube, Vimeo, or blip.tv. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuGbLY-l930
- If there is a video with <embed> code available, just enter the URL of the page containing the video and you will be prompted for <embed> code on the next screen.
- The URL can also be a video file itself. http://www.ted.com/clips.mov
Why is there are a separate search for video? Why can't I locate all the website content with search?
We are working to integrate full website search.
How can I translate a video?
You can sign up for a user account at Universal Subtitles. Add the video and start translating. We will be working on a project in the coming months to do
Do I need a Miro account to add videos?
You can add a video without a miro or Ushahidi community site account. Simply click "Submit Video" and follow the steps. We aim to have a complete community video list. This way you can add videos to your video channel and also share them with the Ushahidi video community.
Do I need a Universal Subtitles account to translate/localize videos?
Yes, you can sign up for an account here.
Why are there so many different websites with different user accounts?
We are working on integrating the wiki, community site, and video channels into one site with single sign-on. This project is pending. We apologize for the inconvenience. We wanted to provide the video functionality as soon as it was available rather than wait for the scheduled Q3 website redesign.
